Update Failed for CA Internet Security Suite and component products

Problem Summary
How do I fix errors that come up when I update CA Internet Security Suite and its component products?
Problem Resolution
  1. At the point when the update fails, please restart your computer and retry your updates.
  2. If updates have never happened in the past on this PC, then do check if your system requirements match CA ISS requirements
  3. Click here for instructions to disable your firewall to check if this is causing a problem.

CA Personal Firewall will not block your CA updates. However, if you are not using CA Personal Firewall, and if updates are working with your firewall disabled, then add the following websites to the exception list of your firewall (your firewall vendor or firewall help manuals will help you with this step):

Follow steps 4 to 8 to eliminate any conflicts blocking your updates:

  1. Go to Start > Run > type msconfig > click OK.

For Vista and windows 7, Start > in search panel, type msconfig and press enter

  1. Click on the Startup tab across the top.
  2. Uncheck all items which are NOT related to the CA Security Suite here. Note that all CA related items will show the installation location in the second column; Example: C:\Program Files\CA
  1. Click on OK and restart your computer.
  2. After restart, retry updating the software.
To do this, right click the CA icon on the bottom right, and select Update Product.
  3. If your computer is behind a proxy, then configure CA Internet Security Suite with proxy settings. For guidelines to do this, please click here if you using CA ISS 2007/2008 and CA ISS 2009 users, click here
  4. At this point, if the update fails, CA files could be corrupt on your computer. Please follow below guidelines to reinstall CA software.a) From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
    b) Open Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features in Windows Vista/Windws7).
    c) Click the Uninstall button.
    d) If you know which component is failing to update, select only this component to uninstall.

Note. You will have an option to uninstall select components in older versions of CA. If you are using latest versions of CA, or if you do not know which component’s update failed, then proceed with uninstalling which will uninstall CA completely.

    e) Follow on-screen instructions to complete uninstallation, and restart your computer.
    f)  Download a fresh copy of the CA product you subscribed for.
    g) Run the downloaded setup and choose products that you want to install.
    h) Follow on-screen instructions to install, and restart your computer.

CA Internet Security Suite will now be up to date.
